Who we are
Our History
McLoughlin Boat Company was founded in 1991 by my late father, Michael Anthony McLoughlin, a skilled and passionate shipwright dedicated to high-quality boat craftsmanship. Initially focusing on creating durable fishing vessels for local fishermen, the company quickly garnered attention for its exceptional craftsmanship. Local businessmen soon approached McLoughlin Boat Company for the creation of small pleasure boats, which marked the company’s transition into a broader spectrum of maritime projects.
Over the years, McLoughlin Boat Company has become a trusted name in Ireland’s maritime industry, known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and traditional craftsmanship. Today, the company remains a beacon of traditional boat building in Ireland, upholding the legacy of its founder. From fishing vessels to tall ships, Michael Anthony McLoughlin’s contributions have not only met practical needs but also preserved the rich heritage of Irish shipbuilding for future generations.
Team and Expertise
The company’s team consists of highly skilled shipwrights, a mechanical and marine engineer. This multidisciplinary approach allows McLoughlin Boat Company to deliver comprehensive maritime solutions. The team also collaborates closely with several naval architects to ensure design excellence and regulatory compliance.
Portfolio Highlights
Over the past decade, McLoughlin Boat Company’s portfolio has grown significantly, showcasing projects that blend tradition with innovation:
The Brian Ború: A gaff-rigged sailing ketch originally built as a Scottish oak and larch fishing vessel. Converted into a sailing vessel in 2013, it is now under the stewardship of Sail Training Ireland.
Replica Viking Longship: A stunning reproduction of a 10th-century Viking longship, built for the hit Netflix series Valhalla. This project stands as a testament to the team’s dedication to preserving historical craftsmanship.
